Biodiversity is the variety of all living things that make up healthy ecosystems. Sadly, declared pest species threaten this balance by outcompeting, preying on or damaging native species and habitats.
This International Day for Biological Diversity, we invite parents, teachers and young explorers to join our Biodiversity Detective Challenge!
Spend time outdoors, observe the amazing variety of life around you and learn to spot the difference between our valuable native species and harmful invasive pests.
Protecting biodiversity starts with awareness and every observation counts!

Many of us are familiar with the common honey bee that lives in large, busy colonies. However, did you know that these honey bees are not native to Australia? They were introduced from Europe.
In contrast, most native Australian bees are solitary, they don't return to a hive at the end of the day. Providing bee hotels can offer these solitary native bees a safe place to rest, nest and raise their young.
