PHBG Spring 2025 Photo Competition
This spring, the Peel Harvey Biosecurity Group invites students to take part in our 2025 Photo Competition! We're looking for eye-catching photos that celebrate our local environment, from native wildlife and wildflowers to the impact of pests on our landscapes.
The competition is open to all primary and secondary students in the Peel-Harvey region. It's a great opportunity to explore the outdoors, get creative and learn about biosecurity along the way.
Entries open soon, scan the QR Code for more information!
A big thank you to Mandurah, Lakelands, SJ Shire and Shire of Murray libraries for inviting us to run our Pesky Pests and Buzz Off! school holiday programs, and to everyone who came along and got involved! We loved sharing the fun and learning with you all!

A big thank you to all the students and teachers at North Dandalup Primary School for having us!
We had a fantastic time learning about declared pests together. Students impressed us with their knowledge, from identifying animal calls, tracks and scats, to completing the fruit fly life cycle, spotting PSHB damage, discussing pest animal impacts, and checking out the tools landholders use to manage declared pests. Great work, everyone!
Special thanks also to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development for supplying the PSHB rulers.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand at the Lake Clifton Seedling Giveaway hosted by PHCC!
We had a great time chatting with you and helping make simple homes for the endangered Western Ringtail Possum.
If you'd like to make your own possum drey, you can find the instructions HERE!
Biodiversity is the variety of all living things that make up healthy ecosystems. Sadly, declared pest species threaten this balance by outcompeting, preying on or damaging native species and habitats.
This International Day for Biological Diversity, we invite parents, teachers and young explorers to join our Biodiversity Detective Challenge!
Spend time outdoors, observe the amazing variety of life around you and learn to spot the difference between our valuable native species and harmful invasive pests.
Protecting biodiversity starts with awareness and every observation counts!

Many of us are familiar with the common honey bee that lives in large, busy colonies. However, did you know that these honey bees are not native to Australia? They were introduced from Europe.
In contrast, most native Australian bees are solitary, they don't return to a hive at the end of the day. Providing bee hotels can offer these solitary native bees a safe place to rest, nest and raise their young.
Learn more about how to support our native bees HERE!
A big thank you to all the schools and home educators who took part in our Pesky Pests incursion program this term!
Interesting fact: 100% of participating educators said the content was relevant to their students, and that they’d recommend our incursions to others!
Our special edition resource box is now available at Murray and Greenfields Toy Libraries - come and check it out!
Create your own 'track scene' using locally-made animal track stamps and discover more about declared pest species. Become a wildlife detective with our Animal Tracks & Scats ID Guide and find out which animals are living nearby.
Feeling playful? Test your knowledge of south-west WA’s wildlife with our Animal Guessing Game, try your luck with Poo Bingo, or dive into our Pesky Pests board game!
